West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently made waves in Krishnanagar as she joined forces with Mahua Moitra during the Lok Sabha poll campaign. Speaking passionately at the rally, Banerjee highlighted the plight of Mahua Moitra, who was expelled from Parliament for her vocal opposition against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In a charged address to the crowd, Banerjee rallied support for Mahua Moitra’s re-nomination, emphasizing the need for TMC’s victory in all 42 seats of Bengal. “Bengal means only TMC and no one else,” she declared, urging the people to make their voices heard through the ballot box.

Taking a swipe at the BJP’s ambitious target of 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Banerjee challenged them, referencing their performance in the West Bengal assembly polls where they fell short of their aim, with several members subsequently joining her party. She characterized the BJP as a “jumla party” peddling lies, particularly regarding the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Banerjee vehemently opposed the implementation of CAA, labeling it as a trap to label legal citizens as foreigners, paving the way for the National Register of Citizens (NRC). She warned against falling for false assurances from the central government, asserting that neither CAA nor NRC would find a place in West Bengal under her leadership.

Questioning the composition of the CAA committee, Banerjee raised suspicions about BJP’s future intentions regarding NRC. She challenged BJP leaders to apply for citizenship under CAA, alleging that they avoid doing so as it would reveal their foreign status and disqualify them from contesting elections.

Banerjee’s fiery rhetoric resonated with the crowd, underscoring the high-stakes battle against CAA and the broader political landscape in West Bengal as the Lok Sabha elections draw near.
